testing

I've decided to do the next mid-term test for Taekwondo. I pretty much know all my forms and I've gotten to the point where I feel I can perform them relativly well. I'm looking forward to doing it. I probably won't do any real sparing, but I might try a break. I havn't decided on that yet. It will deffinatly be nice to do some forms in a performace setting again, though. I'm getting more comfortable with turning on the right leg every day. For basic kicks I'm fine...haven't really tried out any spinning wheel or spinning hooks yet. The test is next Friday. Steve will be test too, for his navy belt...he'll only be 2 away (probably about a year) from black.

I went to the doctor this morning and got the OK to start doing whatever I wanted on my knee. He said to slowly start working on the pivoting and sparing. So I've still got a little way to go before I'm 100%, but at least I can do everything now, even if it isn't all out yet. I've stopped at home to get something to eat, and then I'm going to get to school to teach the rest of the day.

So, I actually got to pass out candy for Halloween! Last year we bought candy and then no one came...which wasn't surprising since Mt. Adams isn't really full of families. But in Oakley there were lots of little kids. We have some candy left over...I made sure we kept a couple Reese's. In other news, our furnace finally got fixed at 8:30 last night. It hadn't been working since last Thursday. Long story as to why it took so long. The important thing is that it was above 60 degrees in the house when I got out of bed this morning.

more work

I give AP an assignment where they pick a research related article from Science magazine and then write a summary based on questions I give them. They turned it in Monday and they were decent, but for the most part not exactly what I was looking for. So I get the bright idea to show them exactly what I want from their papers. I tell them I will do the assignment as a sample. I also say that to make it fair, they can pick the article I do. The idea behind that was so that they couldn't say that I had it easy because I already knew what the articles were about and therefor didn't have to struggle with reading or understanding.

The article the report they pick for me is "Deformation of (MgFe)SiO3 Post-Perovskite and D" Anisotropy" by Merkel et al. It took me forever to read the thing because I had to look up half the words. I think the target audience was only people with advanced degrees in earth or planetary science. Certainly not high school bio teachers with genetics degrees. On the plus side, I will be demonstrating to my students that when you don't know a word you look it up rather than using it in the paper and making it clear to your reader that you don't know what's going on. Also on the plus side (I suppose) I now have a better understanding of seismic activity in the deepest layer of the mantel. I also know what a diamond anvil cell is and how it works. The article is also an excellent example of how in science you sometimes do a lot of work just to come up with inconclusive results.

On the other hand when Mr. Weiderhold (the chemistry/physic teacher I share an office with)saw me working on it Friday, he told me I should never give myself extra work. He's a wise man.

Here's a new picture of Rowlf.

I ran two miles today. My knee didn't hurt too much, but I was tired. I guess it's good when being out of shape is the problem and not the knee.

Facebook

So, I made myself a facebook account. I kind of thought I was a little old for that kind of stuff, but there are ton of Purdue people I havn't spoken to in a while on there. I've contacted or been contacted by some people I havn't seen in years, which is nice because I'm really bad at keeping in touch with people. So in conclusion, I gave into a trend and I kind of like it.

Rowlf got neutered today. Steve dropped him off at the vet this morning. They keep him for observation and then I pick him up after school tomorrow.

The school week has been going by fast which is nice, since next week won't. We have parent conferences on Tuesday. This means that I will be at school from 6:45ish until 8:45ish. I will get home around 9:30, then I'll go right back there in the morning. On the plus side, I go to an AP conference at Xavier next Thursday. This means an 8 minute drive instead of 40...good deal!

I have the e-mail update list ready...with all 4 of the parents who asked to be on it. Our online parent access to grades is not working (I don't know why) and it apparently won't be working until 2nd semester. So, at the request of a parent I decided to offer parents the chance to get e-mail updates on test dates, projects, etc. Unfortunately I couldn't be given the parent e-mail that we had on file (??). So I sent letters home with the students. I suspect most parents never got them. At least I tired...and I carefully documented the fact that I tried.

Rowlf on Moving Day

Rowlf likes paper

House Picture

I don't really have any of the inside of the house since we moved in, but here's what it looks like from the front. Imagine that I bothered to turn the image around...This really isn't a good picture. I'll make a point of getting some better ones.

Vacation Pics

Yes, this is from about two months ago...it took me a while to get around to down loading the pictures. First one is Steve by the grass courts at the tennis hall of fame in Newport. 2nd is thsi cool riverfire thing they do in Providence. In your ever there I recommend it...a ton of people show up and it turns into a giant party. 3rd is me by the ocean.

school makes me sick

So, I've fallen victim to the major hazard of working in a school...I got whatever cold has been going around. I feel a little better today, but not great. I've used this as a reason (excuse) not to run. I have still done some other stuff. Steve's parents are in town the weekend too, so that is additionally reducing the chances that I accomplish any real physical therapy. The schedule at Spectrum has changed and my physical therapist doesn't stay late right now, so I have to step up and do everything on my own for a couple weeks. This means getting into the weight room at school. It shouldn't be a big deal...none of the sports teams are currently using it on a regular basis, so there shouldn't be too many people in there at once.

Interim grades are due on Tuesday so I have to somehow get everything grading and in the computer by then. I'm usually pretty good about keeping on top of grades, but I somehow ended up having multiple large assignments all turned in at about the same time and now I have a ton to do for both biology and environmental science. I'm trying to get some done now, and I'll probably do some more while watching football tomorrow.

Sunday, September 16, 2007

I tried running this morning, but my knee started hurting so I stoped after 3/4 of a mile. I did do some strength stuff though, and that went well. Overall PT for the week was good. I don't have anything scheduled for next week yet. I am going to start using the weight room at school a couple times a week and go to PT less.

Doctor appointment went well on Monday. I got hte OK to do most things at TKD as long as I didn them slowly. I'm not suppose to pivot or start or stop quickly. I pretty much just suppose to keep building quad strength until he's sure that the graft has healed all the way. I will be building up activity over the next two months and then hopefully when I go back to see him in November I'll get the go ahead to do whatever I can.

The weather is great. Rowlf actually likes being outside now that it isn't so hot. We're going over to my parent's today to watch football in High Def. Go Bengals! (Edited post game: Boo Defense!!)

Friday, September 7, 2007

I've actually started running. Not jogging at 4mph, but actual running. It's really fast or far, but it at least feels like real exercise. Yesterday I ran for 20 minutes. I've gotten up to 6.5 mph without any real pain. I've also been able to do some more forms at tkd. I can kick better, but I'm still not pivoting on my right leg or snapping any kicks. I go back to the doctor Monday, so hopefully that will go well.

The house and Rowlf are both doing well. We still have a few boxes that need to be unpacked, but for the most part everything is coming together. I'll try to get some pictures of the house up.

School is also going well. I have a ton of grading this weekend.

Moved

I haven't been that good about physical therapy on my own this past week due to the whole moving thing. Good news is that we are all moved, if not all unpacked. I have to go back to work tomorrow, so I have to try to get ready for that too. Tomorrow will be busy. I have to go up for the teacher workday, then go to physical therapy when I get home. Fitting in PT will become more and more difficult as school starts again. A main difficulty is the amount of time I have to spend driving. Plus, I have to make sure I can get home to spend some time with Rowlf, since he's not used to being left for more than a few hours at a time. He should adapt to it pretty quickly though. We've made him an area in the basement where he'll be staying during the day until he's old enough to be trusted not to destroy the house if left to roam free.

Back to Therapy

I went back to therapy today for the first time in a couple weeks. It went well. Did some good work on the weight machines. Got a decent workout on the bike in too.

It is crazy hot outside, but according to the weather maps it's like in most of the country right now, so that's not a surprise to anyone. I make myself a strawberry smoothie at 10:00 this morning because it was 83 degrees in the house. The tiny air conditioner can't keep up. It hasn't dropped below 82 since we got back from vacation. And since it stays hot at night, opening windows wouldn't help. I'm hoping it's below 90 next Wednesday when we move, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Sunday, August 5, 2007

So, I've gotten lazy about posting. I'll blame it on being preoccupied by the whole house buying thing. We close on the 8th. We also went on vacation last week to Rhode Island. It was a good week. Lots of walking around, swimming, bike riding, eating...all good stuff. I wasn't all that great about keeping up with my physical therapy. At the same time I was usually pretty tired from the day's activities. I was getting some decent workouts, so I guess that counts. I did make a point of doing some hopping drills a couple mornings. I got on the treadmill for 10 minutes tonight and had a lot less pain than I have had previously which made me feel pretty good. Other than that I've been working on packing for the move. This is easier said than done when dealing with Rowlf.

Wednesday, July 25, 2007

Haven't posted anything for a while because I'm lazy. Last week I started going to PT twice a week instead of three times. I'm keeping up with things at home as well. I saw the doctor on Monday and he said everything was looking good. I'm still not suppose to start doing any snap kicks or pivot on my right leg yet. I go back in September.

I've been busy packing since we bought a house and will be moving in on Aug 15. Rowlf has been getting in the way since he likes to bite the boxes and be generally under foot. He went to the vet yesterday and he is now 31 lbs.

Tuesday, July 3, 2007

Physical therapy is still going well. I have started doing a little jogging. It's frustrating because I can't take long strides, so I'm jogging at the pace that I would usually walk at. Going slow makes for a very awkward stride. When added to the fact that my shin occasionally hurts while I'm doing it, the whole jogging thing is all around uncomfortable. But I'm only going for 5-6 minutes at a time and I can tell it has improved since the first time I did it. Yesterday we also did some more with hopping (front to back and side to side). Then, since that seemed to be going well, we did hopping on one foot. First the left then the right. We only did 15 seconds oer set. I have trouble getting any height off the right leg, which makes control difficult. The hopping will have to be something I start doing more frequently at home. I don't have therapy again until Friday so I'll have to do extra at home this week.

Saturday, June 23, 2007

The air conditioner was fixed earlier this week, which made things much more pleasant in the house. I've made a lot of progress in physical therapy this week. We've been doing a lot with the weight machines. I've been pretty good about keeping up with the core strength work at home. I've also been working TKD stances and actually went to class on Tuesday. The only thing that's giving me some problems is the leg extension machine. We go up with both legs, then lower it with just the bad one...sometimes it hurts my shin right under the knee. Not too happy about that, but I'm sure it will go away as things continue to heal. We've kept working jumping and running in place on the mini trampoline and that has been feeling better as I get more confident in my leg strength. I'm still putting in time on the bike to get some cardio work too.

I also get some workouts from walking Rowlf. We've been taking him on some longer walks because it's the only way to tire him out. He hasn't caught on to fetching yet. He's getting pretty good with "sit" and "come" though. "Stay" is hit or miss. His ears are starting to stand up and he seems to get a little bigger each day. He went to the vet Tuesday and weighed in at 19 pounds.

Monday, June 18, 2007

Rowlf is keeping me busy...can't take my attention off of him for more than a few seconds when he's awake. He's very cute though...he tends to get very wild in the evenings and starts chewing on everything, particularly me and Steve. I'd like to take him on more walks during the day to burn off some more energy, but it's been very hot. When I take him out he's always in a hurry to get into the shade or back inside.

Physical therapy has been going well. I saw the doctor again today and he seemed pleased with my progress. Today at therapy we hit the leg press, hamstring curl, and leg extension machines pretty hard, so I was kind of sore after that. It's all part of getting my quad strength back though. Also did this odd skating thing. Basically a very slick piece of plastic that you slide back and fourth on. I've been doing some good time on the stationary bike to get some cardio work in. Over the next few weeks we'll start working on a fast walk to a light jog on the treadmill.

Our air conditioner has been running non-stop and it's still 83 degrees in the house. Steve called the landlord today, so hopefully it'll get looked at soon.

Rowlf

We got our puppy today. When I went to pick one out, one came up on sat on my foot. I figured I'd pick the one that picked me so that made it easy. Here's a picture of Rowlf. He's been very good boy so far.

Saturday, June 9, 2007

Yesterday I got the official OK to stop wearing the brace. I was at physical therapy for three hours yesterday and got a pretty good workout. Did some new things with the exercise ball, worked a lot on walking, since my gait is all weird after walking my leg straight for 4 weeks. I also got in a 1/2 hour on the bike. It was nice to actually get my heart rate up. We also started working on stances for TKD.

Once I can hold a decent stance I plan to go back to classes in a non kicking capacity. I actually spent a lot of time at the school this week even though I wasn't doing a whole lot of movement. We a couple other instructors either out of town or with various things happening so I subbed for several classes. Plus we had a test last night, so I was judging at that. Steve tested for his red belt and did a pretty good job from what I saw. Since I was suppose to be judging other people though, I didn't see all that he did.

Tomorrow I'm picking up our new puppy. He's a German Shepard. We're naming him Rowlf, after the Muppet (the piano dog).

Thursday, May 31, 2007

At physical therapy yesterday I got the OK to not wear the brace around the house. I had a different physical therapist yesterday and understandably, since it was the first time she had worked with me, she was relectant to tell me I didn't have to wear it at all. So, I'm still wearing it when I'm out, but not at night. I'm good with that.

I found out what classes I'm teaching next year. Looks like 3 sections of college prep biology, AP, and 2 sections environmental science. It looks like its going to be a pretty good schedule. Today, everything got turned in and I'm officially free for the summer.

Tuesday, May 29, 2007

My knee has been feeling much better. I go to physical therapy Wed and Fri this week. I'm hoping I'll be able to get rid of the brace by the end of the week. Physical therapy seems to be going well. My range of motion has increased over the weekend. Driving is a lot better now that I don't have to the seat back further than I usually have it. Hopefully I'll have good news about not having to wear the brace soon!

Wednesday, May 23, 2007

I got to 115 degrees at physical therapy today. I got about 105 on my own, then Mr. Sallada made the rest happen. I was able to get on the bike, which was nice because it felt like the first actual exercise in about 3 weeks. I was also given a theraband to use at home. I still had some bend in my knee when I lift it, so I'm still in the brace. Hopefully I'm going to get out of wearing it at night--Mr. Sallada is going to check with Dr. Kenter to make sure it's OK.

Sunday, May 20, 2007

Rees and Luke (my cousins: age 10 and 8) both won their forms divisions at their tournament yesterday, but lost their sparing matches. They said they had a good time. Sparing is one of those things most people have to build up experience before they get it.

I've used my time this weekend pretty well...I've done my physical therapy stuff periodically throughout the day. I'm able to tell that things are getting better. On the frustrating side, I was standing and looked down at both my legs and it was very apparent just how much strength I've lost in my right leg. Compared to my left thigh, it seems like my right has no muscle tone. It's amazing how quickly muscle will atrophy if they're not being used. I look forward to when I have some more range of motion and can start building strength back up.

Also, Steve and I are planning our summer vacation. At one time the thought was to go to mountains for hiking, but with the knee thing that seems like a bad idea. New idea is Rhode Island...whale watching, boat rental, eating lobster at least once a day. Can't go wrong with that. Plus we found a good price on the flight and car rental and Steve's Hilton points from traveling for work cover most of the hotel.

We plan to count all our change that is lying around...we figure it'll pay for a pretty nice dinner for our anniversary. Plus, it'll get all the change off of our surfaces. We have a couple change cups where it theoretically ends up, but some of it seems to not find its way into those.

leg lift

I was able to lift my leg a couple days ago! Very exciting, quite painful. It's been getting better though. Walking is getting better too. I've ditched the crutches. Now I walk a bit like a pirate (peg-leg) since I have to have the brace locked when I'm walking. Swelling is going down in my knee, but new bruises are appearing throughout my leg.

My two cousins are going to their first taekwondo tournament today. I'm glad the experience at my last tournament didn't scare them off.

Only two more weeks of school! Really just one, then finals. We finished the dissections for Bio last week. So next week is reviewing for the final and getting everything turned in and all the other end of the year type stuff.

The senior prank this year was to block off the teacher parking lot with their cars (this was my senior classes prank...I told my AP class about it one day, they told some other people, and they decided to go with it). They let me park in the teacher lot, though, because I was hurt and they didn't want to make me walk all the way from the student lot...very nice of them.

Wednesday, May 16, 2007

I've been back at work since yesterday. It hasn't been too bad. I haven't been able to ice as much and I've been standing more, so it hurts a bit over the course of the day, but nothing too bad. The front of my knee is numb, which feels odd, but its expected. The area that is numb should eventually get smaller, but as I understand it there will always be a little numbness (due to the whole nerve cells not growing thing). I'm also getting some interesting bruising as the swelling displaces itself throughout my leg. I have a bruise on my thigh that looks pretty nasty and one on my calf that doesn't look great, but isn't as bad. We had track awards night tonight, so I did quite a bit of standing. I'll be spending some time icing while watching Lost tonight. And tomorrow I have to grade the freshman practice OGTs. Not much fun, but at least I'll get to sit and ice some during the day.

Monday, May 14, 2007

The doctor said my knee was looking good. The stitches were taken out and the x-rays were good. Then I went to physical therapy which was somewhat painful, but at the same time it felt good to be doing something even though I really couldn't do all that much. It's incredibly frustrating to not be able to pick my own leg up because my quads are cooperating. But, I'll be doing physical therapy throughout the day every day so that should start to improve.

Sunday, May 13, 2007

Tomorrow I go back to the doctor to get my knee checked out. Right now, I can get my knee bent to about 80 degrees. Assuming I can drive, I'll go to work after my appointments. I'm going to start having problems coming up with sub friendly lesson plans if I can't go in. Bio has to finish a couple dissections...not something I'm willing to leave with a sub, nor would a sub want to be left with it.

The AP test is tomorrow. I made cookies today for them to have after the test. And when I say I made, I mean that Steve did. My leg started hurting after I was standing for a while, so he finished them. They are tasty though, and that's what's important.

Friday, May 11, 2007

I 've only taken Advil today, so that's good. I went to school yesterday and today to help the AP kids study. That went well. I've been increasing the movement exercises. I think I'm able to move my knee more than I could. I can tighten my quads, but if I sit with my leg out in front of me I can't life it up. I took off the initial dressings and then put more gauze over the incision and band-aids over the arthroscopic holes. Considering, I didn't think my knee looked that bad. Swollen, a little bruised, but I think it could be a lot worse.

Wednesday, May 9, 2007

I just took off my brace and did my range of motion excersize for the first time. I sit in a chair and then move my foot back and forth, sliding it on the ground. I think I got my leg bent to about 35 degrees. I'll probably keep doing it every four hours or so (time it so it's about one hour after I take pain medication). Steve is being very helpful with everything. He goes back to work tomorrow, though, so I need to make sure I can get out of bed on my own (without help lifting my leg) by tonight.

Monday I go to get it checked out with Dr. Kenter, then I get the physical therapy check with Steve Sallada. So far, so good.

Tuesday, May 8, 2007

Big Day

Well, today was the day. We got to the hospital at 6:00, did some paper work and waited some. I knew I had to do a urine test before I went into surgery, so the waiting was a bit unpleasant, as I had to go to the bathroom the whole time. Fortunately I didn't have to wait long. I had to take everything off and change into a fashionable combination of hospital gown, hospital socks, and a little hat thing. I'm sure I looked great.

Steve came in and hung out while I waited for the anesthesiologist. I got asked a bunch of questions and then the anesthesiologist gave me the "joy juice". That kicked in pretty quickly as they took me to the operating room. Then I remember being told to breath deeply into a mask. Then I remember waking up and a nurse telling me I was done. Apparently the doctor talked to me about how the procedure went, but I don't remember any of it. He also spoke with Steve. I'll be going back on Monday to get checked out. The goal is for me to be able to bend 90 degrees by then. I'll start working on movement tomorrow.

They gave me percacet for the pain and said I could also take some Advil if I needed any more help. We got home at 11:30, I had a snack and took the painkillers. I've pretty much been alternating between watching TV and taking naps. I'm not in too much pain as long as I'm not moving too much. Getting in and out of bed is very painful, but walking with the crutches actually isn't too bad. I'm anticipating the pain being worse tomorrow morning, but I'm hoping it starts to improve after that. I called Lora to see how the track team was doing. The 4x8 came in 2nd, which is about what we were expecting. A couple of them also ran their fasted legs of the season, so that's good. I don't know how anyone else did because Lora went home with her parents after the 4x8. Hopefully she intends to spend the rest of the evening studying for the AP exam.

I have a great piece of equipment velcroed to my leg that continually pumps cold water. All we have to do is keep the cooler filled with ice and water. Much more convenient than changing out ice bags. I haven't taken anything off to look at my actual knee yet. I'm not really in a hurry to do so, since I'm anticipating that it looks pretty nasty. The doctor showed me the pictures of my surgery when he spoke with me, but I don't remember that. Steve saw them, but I'll have to wait until Monday. I'll have to see if I can keep a couple. Pictures of the inside of a knee are always cool to have around a biology classroom.

Tomorrow I start working on recovery. I'll be letting you know how it goes.

Countdown

Surgery is tomorrow. I have to be at the hospital at 6:00a.m. I'm actually glad to be getting it over with...I don't like waiting around for this kind of stuff. Hopefully I'll be coherent enough by tomorrow afternoon to call in to check on the track team. They should be all set for the meet tomorrow. I talked to Steve Sallada (one of the other black belts and a physical therapist) Saturday. I'm going to try to schedule my rehab with him, since he's familiar with all the TKD techniques, requirements, etc.

Wish me luck!

Thursday, May 3, 2007

Tuesday I had my pre-admission testing for the hospital...no actual tests involved, just some questions and a general checkup (bp, pulse) by a nurse. They made sure I knew all the directions for the day of surgery...no eating after midnight. Today I got a call from the people who are providing the brace I'm using after the surgery. The guy said he would bring it to me on Monday. I thought it was a little weird that he was going to drop it off at the house, but it's convenient for me, so I'm good with it.

I still have to line up subs for my TKD classes for next week. I think everything at school is set, though. We had a track meet tonight (and yesterday night) and we actually were able to run all four of the relays for the first time since the beginning of the season. That makes it a little easier to set the events for the meet on Tuesday. Anat & Phys is taking a test on Tuesday, so my sub will watch them while Mr. Walker works with AP.

I still hope to make it up to school on Thursday and Friday to help them get ready for the AP exam.

My knee has been feeling really good lately. It's kind of weird to think that that will change next week.

who can say no to free pizza?

My knee is feeling pretty good. I have to be careful not to do anything stupid, though. I'm trying not to let myself get completely out of shape. I'm walking, doing ab stuff, and some weights. I'm occasionally going to taekwondo classes, but I'm just walking through everything so that I don't forget forms. I'm also substituting hand techniques for kicks. Last year, I got a little out of shape during track season too, though. When you're a coach, many of the meets give you free pizza. And it's pretty hard to turn down free pizza (or chicken wings, or doughnuts, or what ever other junk food they feed track coaches). Only about two weeks until the surgery. I know it'll hurt after that, but at least once it starts feeling better, I'll know that it actually is getting better (unlike now, when it feels fine, but I know it isn't).

Monday, April 16, 2007

I’m Jolene Pappas (formerly Miller). I’m 26 and live in Cincinnati, OH. I teach high school biology at Batavia High School and taekwondo classes at Cincinnati Taekwondo Center. My reason for starting this thing is because I’m having ACL surgery in a few weeks. I figure if I write down what I’m doing, it’ll keep me honest and working hard. The thought that someone might be reading it and checking up on me will be added motivation (as if being able to do all my normal activities isn’t motivation enough). If you read this, leave a comment. Even if you never read it again, if I think someone is reading it might help. Disclaimer: I’m not guaranteeing anything in regards to the quality of spelling or grammar (particularly spelling).

I thought that I had sprained my knee after an incident at a taekwondo tournament about a month ago. I was sparing, got caught off balance, turned, but my knee didn’t turn with me (for the record, I was winning the match at the time of the injury). I ended up getting it checked out at the emergency room that evening (long story as to how I ended up there…it wasn’t because of my knee, but as long as I was there…) and they said it seemed to be a sprain but because of all the swelling I was advised to get it checked out after the swelling went down. I went and saw the trainer at the high school after track practice (I coach) a week and a half later. She said all the ligaments seemed fine, but that there was still some swelling. I scheduled an appointment with an orthopedist for during spring break. By this time my knee was feeling pretty good and I was going to start upping my activity level, but I wanted to get it checked out first to make sure I wasn’t going to do any permanent damage.

He came to the conclusion that I had torn my ACL. If you’re not familiar with the anatomy of the knee, the ACL and PCL, which hold the thigh bone to the shin, do not have a blood supply, so they don’t heal on their own. Therefore, surgery is necessary for anyone who plans to continue with athletics.

My surgery is scheduled for May 8. I’ll have to take some time off work and the timing couldn’t really be much worse, but I want to get this over with. I will miss the league track meet, but track coaches don’t really have to do that much at the meets. I pretty much just make sure everyone gets to their events on time. All the decisions and preparation take place in advance, and I’ll have that covered. Also, we don’t have a very big track team, so Coach Moorehead said he can handle everyone on his own. The bigger problem is that this is the week before the AP Biology test. I’m going to try to go in just for AP on Thursday and Friday to make sure the AP kids are ready to go. I’m also going to try to arrange to have another one of the biology teachers work with them Tuesday and maybe Wednesday. Fortunately, they’re a fairly self-motivated group and they will help each other if I’m not there. Also, I plan to have them pretty much ready by the week before, since there are a number of other things going on the week of the 7th that will be major distractions (like other AP tests and prom).

The good news is that since I’m a teacher, I have the summer off. With all the free time, I won’t have any excuses not to be the model physical therapy patient. Only 7 more weeks of school!
