Obviously...

I don't do any upkeep on this any more. I got back in shape. The end...

Getting a little frustrated. I keep working out and watching what I eat and I was hovering in the 158-159 range. This morning I was at 156.5, though, so maybe there has been some progress.

Last night went to the Karate seminar and got a good quad workout, in addition to some interesting technique work. It was a good experience. Went to class Monday and Thursday, and Wednesday I had the class do mostly conditioning that I did as well. That was probably the best workout of the week. Lots of punching, jumping rope, balance ball, kicking. Little bits of everything.

It's become a lot harder to get motivated to do treadmill work or workout at home now that I'm working during the day. I did get on the treadmill after work on Monday. James fell asleep when we got home, so I decided I should do it while I had the chance. I did intervals of going faster than normal (7), jogging (6), and walking (4). I'll try to get on the treadmill at least once over the weekend.

I went to TKD twice last week, plus participated quite a bit while I was teaching Wed. Did some weights and core work during a couple afternoons. Yesterday I went three miles on the treadmill. Ran the first, the alternated between walking and running for the next two. After the first mile my IT band started tightening up. I tried stretching afterwards, but my hips are sore today. A couple weeks ago it flared up while jogging, so I had been taking it easy on the treadmill. Yesterday was the longest I had gone since that started. I'll stretch it again today and hopefully I'll get a few decent runs in later in the week.

I go back to work tomorrow, so that will make things more difficult in terms of motivating myself to work out. However, I'll be standing and walking around more during the day (as opposed to sitting most of the day), so that might offset things from a weight loss stand point (but not in terms of conditioning).

Weight this morning: 158 lbs.

new start on the blog

So, I haven't been on here to post in a while...devoted my Internet time to facebook. However, I now have a new goal to chronicle. After having James, I now find myself a little heavier than before and I don't fit into my pants. I've had to buy a few pairs of replacement pants fro when I go back to work (next week). I understand that there may be fundamental changes to my body shape and that I may never fit into my old pants again. I can't make that determination until I get closer to my pre-pregnancy weight, though.

I will now use this blog to record what I'm doing to make that happen. The blog was originally started as ACL rehab recording. Now it will be James rehab recording.

Diet: I've never had to actually do any real dieting before. I'm not going to start on a specific diet now. What I've been doing is cutting down on snacking between meals and trying to eat things with nutritional value (if I am going to have a snack, it should be fruit as opposed to pretzels). Plus, drinking water, and generally just eating healthy stuff.

Working out: I have to do something every day, but not the same thing.

Eating well may get a little easier when I go back to work because I won't be in the house all day. Working out will get harder because I'm not going to want to do anything when I get home.

I've been jogging and starting taekwondo activities. I went back to class for the first time last night. I had gotten myself to the point where I was jogging a couple miles, and then I started having IT band issues, so I've backed off that I bit and I'm doing more walking on an incline on the treadmill mixed with some jogging.

Weight as of this morning: 159.5 lbs.
I figure I need to get below 140 before I give up on my pants.

One month of summer down. We got the kid's room cleaned out and painted. We've started getting the 3rd floor ready to be turned into a guest room. The bank account for the CTC alumni association is set up and we're almost ready to put out the first newsletter. Hopefully we can increase the CTC AA membership after the newsletter goes out. First seminar (makeshift weapons) is planned.

I have not finished getting the CP lesson plans ready yet, which I wanted to have done by now. The schedule is complete, but I still have to print some things off and make the answer keys. I also should review and make changes to a couple of the tests. I revised the first test today, so at least that's done. I think the keys are all I have to do. Then I can drop the binder off at school and be done with it. New goal is to have it done by the end of next week.

Also rolling all the change in the house. Could take it to one of the machines, but those usually take a percent, and we haven't done anything about the change in a couple years, so I don't want to give that much away when I could just take the time to roll it myself. It's not like I'm really that busy.

The whole pregnancy thing is deffinatly affecting how much I can do at TKD. I still just do what I can thought. Still doing the sword lessons with Sensei as well. If all goes well I'll keep everything up through the summer and then take a break once school starts again.

Steve and I got new phones yesterday. We also upgraded our plan so now we have data, texting , etc. It's very 2004 of us. We got blackberry pearls for $50 each. I also am getting a 15% discount for being a teacher, so we end up paying about the same every month as we have been, only now we get a lot more stuff. Do we need it? No. We will use it though, and since we're not paying more I figure it's a good deal. So now I have a new toy to play with for the start of summer.

We apparently have all the paper work together for opening the account for the CTC alumni association, so now we take care of that. When we tried earlier we had a couple key things missing. This means we need to start moving ahead with the t-shirt, newsletter, seminars, and recruiting paying members.

Only 4 more days of school.

Big project for the summer: making sure all my sub plans are ready for maternity leave. I'm going to try to have the AP stuff finished by the end of next week, then take care of CP over the summer.

Funny (or sad) story from school from a couple weeks ago:

In 1st bell today we were reviewing the binomial naming system. The following discussion occurred...
Student (freshman): Was Linnaeus Latin?
Me: Um...no, I think he was French (I now remember that he was actually Swedish...my bad). Latin is a language, not a place.
S: Who speaks Latin?
M: The Romans did.
S: What about Latin America?
M: What about it?
S: Don't they speak Latin?
M: No...aren't you in Spanish class?
S: Latinos seriously don't speak Latin?
M: No one speaks Latin as their primary form of communication any more.
Other Student: That's why they call it a "dead language."
S: But then why do they call it Latin America?
M: I don't know...probably because Spanish and Portuguese are derived from Latin, but it it's not because they speak it.

I don't just teach Biology...I give out random history, geography, and language info as well.
